The biggest call for help that we get from prisoners is for aftercare, for a place to go to when they are released from prison. In California, we have teamed up with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and with several Church-run halfway houses to expand services available to newly released prisoners to help them get back on their feet and reintegrate into society. A list of services in your dioceses is available in our resources section.
We are also developing resettlement pastoral care guidelines/directions for the newly released to enable bringing them together in a supportive pastoral Catholic environment and develop a system to train, assist and work with newly released inmates. We are still in the early stages of this huge effort.
Do you have good web sites or other resources to recommend that have helped you get through the aftermath of crime and with your healing journey?
