National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims
This year's theme is remember, remind, respect.
As individuals and communities, we must remember that homicide literally turns lives upside down and inside out.
Murder Victims' Families of Reconciliation joins with other groups and family members of murder victims to remind everybody that the impact of homicide extends far beyond the deceased victim.
Respect for the memory of murder victims is so critical to those who survive them.
4-8pm
Huntington Beach Pier Plaza
1 Main Street
Huntington Beach, CA US
More Details
On this Day of Remembrance, please also take 15 minutes to take part in a national online survey about three areas that affect survivors of murder victims: family relationship dynamics following a homicide; the roles of law enforcement and survivors of homicide victims; and helping survivors access victim services and rights. Visit here to participate.

Catholic Lobby Day
Catholic Lobby Day is around the corner, Tuesday, April 27. Once again Catholics from across the state are organizing to worship together and meet with their legislators. This is a great opportunity for you to be a voice for the Church on issues that are important to our faith tradition.
This year Catholics visiting the Capitol will address several issues that affect Californians, including access to food stamps (AB 1642), outlawing life without parole sentences for juveniles (SB 399), the California Dream Act (SB 1460) and the moral obligation to protect the dignity of all human life in the California budget. You can read backgrounder sheets on all these issues here. Supplemental backgrounders will be posted in the coming weeks.
Many dioceses also bring local issues to the attention of lawmakers. Delegations are finalizing the issues and travel arrangements now.
There is still time to register. Complete details on Catholic Lobby Day are available here. including a list of coordinators for each diocese and registration forms. Contact Linda Wanner for more information.

1000 Congregations Campaign on the Death Penalty
The 1000 Congregations Campaign enables congregations of all faiths to engage in dialogue, discernment, education and prayer on the death penalty.
The 1000 Congregations Campaign is a coalition project of California People of Faith Working Against the Death Penalty, Progressive Jewish Alliance, and Death Penalty Focus.
Through the 1000 Congregations Campaign, Catholic parishes throughout the state are able to access the newly developed Catholic Mobilizing Network’s curriculum. The Catholic Mobilizing Network, working in close collaboration with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, seeks to prepare Catholics for informed involvement in state campaigns to repeal death penalty laws, expand restorative justice programs and proclaim the Church’s unconditional pro-life teaching, which holds that all human life is sacred and that the dignity of human life is threatened by the death penalty.
